Untethered

Have I got a secret for you. As the look of terror fills your face, you forget what we put ourselves through. When they drag me off this stage, and I wander the desert for days, voices’ whisper turns to a gale. This ship will not surrender, this reign of terror is mine to end. And you leave me untethered, to never be seen again. No bullets left and bottles broke. Imagine what they'll say about us at home. Easy to think you’re a hero without ever knowing the truth. They’ll come in thru the side door wearing masks, holding garbage bags. But we’ll be too far gone to tell our tale, but…

Split the difference

Call the car. But don’t leave with things unsaid. Take a walk around the block with your eyes red. Now they know, because no one can keep a secret. Every patient front page needs something new to gloat. And you’re trapped in a prison of six city blocks by seven city blocks, with little restaurants where they pour poison down your throat. And your lawyers keep telling you you got something they want. That’s what they say, but all you got is hope. When your bills get paid, it only goes one way. But I don’t know why we’re acting like this, but we deserve it. Yeah we deserve it baby, coz no one ever stops us when the game gets finished. Yeah, now we’re both in this. We split the difference. How’d you learn to gamble with your eyes closed?? It’s such a fateful thing that you did, but I think that you still know. Back when we were living in the gutter downtown, there was a lil number, I know that you still know. It goes:

Her first childhood memory: lost in the greenhouse, or cut grass at the old house. She’s sure nothing can prepare you for summer days that never seem to end. I’m sure nothing can prepare us for, how aren’t all memories told out of order.
In the garden. In the yard. In your blind spot, I’ve always waited to be first inside your heart. When there were sparks, or doors to be unlocked. We all take our places. The shadows line up with us, equinox.
When we met we built a civilization, whispering our secrets to stick figures. No matter the season I figured part of us would always be lovers, part of us would always be children. Drunk and crying on the kitchen floor, wondering why the shit that worked doesn’t work anymore.

Katie won’t talk to me. No one thinks I’m Superman besides her. Didn’t want a one night stand, I was a liar. I burned a bridge by telling the truth. Thru thick and thin, you’ve always let me come back to annoy you. You burned a bouquet bathed in anthropology. Little Aztec bowls for eating human hearts. You took off in the night with no apology. After all the silly games you still won’t talk to me.
